The history of the Cherry Blossoms is part of our overall Tidal Basin/Cherry Blossom Tour. Listen to a preview here and download this track by itself or as part of the full tour!
In 1912, the government of Japan gave a wonderful gift to the city of Washington DC – 3000 beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees. That year, the trees were planted around the Tidal Basin, and ever since have been celebrated annually in Late March-Early April. They are not to be missed. Sitting on the edge of the Tidal Basin are the Jefferson, FDR, and MLK Jr. Memorials, as well as a paddleboat rental dock that has proven popular with tourists and locals alike. The Tidal Basin is rich with stories to tell and be told about the area itself as well as the great figures memorialized there.
